Step-by-Step Drawing Guide
Step 1: Draw the Manatee Head Outline

Start with a large curved line for the manatee’s rounded head and back of the head. Add small curved lines underneath to place the mouth and chin, keeping the whole shape soft and gentle.
Pro Tip: Make the top curve fairly wide so the manatee looks round and friendly.

Step 2: Add the Eyes and Face Details

Add round eyes on both sides of the head, with small curved marks inside for shine. Then draw short eyebrows, nostrils, and mouth-side curves to make the manatee’s expression look sweeter.
Pro Tip: Keep both eyes at about the same height so the face feels balanced.

Step 3: Draw the Body Outline

Pull a long curved line from behind the head to form the manatee’s rounded back. Add a lower curved line from near the chin to shape the wide belly, leaving space for the tail later.
Pro Tip: Make the body much larger than the head so the manatee’s proportions look natural.

Step 4: Add the Tail and Body Creases

Draw a wide tail at the lower right side of the body, shaped like a rounded paddle. Then add two short curved lines under the head to show the soft neck and body folds, making the manatee look more complete and gentle.
Pro Tip: Keep the tail wide and rounded so it looks like a manatee’s flat paddle-shaped tail.

Step 5: Add the Front Flipper

Draw a hanging front flipper on the lower left side of the body, using a long teardrop shape. Let it connect smoothly to the body so the manatee looks more complete and gently posed for swimming.
Pro Tip: Do not make the flipper too large; it looks balanced when it reaches about the middle of the body.

Step 6: Draw the Second Front Flipper

Add the second front flipper near the lower middle of the body, letting it hang down from the belly edge. Use rounded long curves for the flipper shape, then add small curved marks near the top for the connection.
Pro Tip: This flipper can be slightly larger than the left one to show it is closer to the viewer.

Pin it now, Draw later!

Now your manatee drawing is complete. You built the picture from a simple head outline into a full, rounded animal with a sweet face, soft body folds, flippers, and a paddle-shaped tail.
You can trace your final lines with a black marker and erase any pencil marks. Then color your manatee with soft gray, blue-gray, or warm brown tones, and add water bubbles around it if you like.
