Step-by-Step Drawing Guide

Step 1: Start with the Comb Shape

how to draw a chicken - A first sketch step showing only the chicken’s small two-lobed comb shape near the top center.

Draw a tall, rounded leaf-like curve to form the main chicken comb shape.

Add a smaller bump on the right side to make a simple two-lobed comb.

Pro Tip: Keep the comb small so the head can wrap around it later.

Step 2: Draw the Big Head Outline

how to draw a chicken - The chicken sketch now shows a large rounded head outline drawn around the comb, forming the top of the head and cheeks.

Using the comb as your guide, draw one large arc around it to form the rounded head and cheeks.

Let the curve drop down on the right and connect smoothly near the comb.

Pro Tip: Draw the head in one smooth curve, keeping it like a rounded dome.

Step 3: Add the Fluffy Feather Edge Under the Head

Draw a row of connected scallops along the bottom of the head to create a fluffy feather rim.

Add small rounded bumps on both sides so the head outline feels soft and feathery.

Pro Tip: Keep each scallop rounded, not pointy, to suggest soft feathers.

Step 4: Add the Face Details

how to draw a chicken - The chicken drawing now includes large cartoon eyes, a diamond-shaped beak, and a two-lobed wattle on the face.

Draw two big round eyes, then add curved pupils and small highlights to make them shiny.

Add a small diamond-shaped beak between the eyes, and a two-lobed wattle underneath.

Pro Tip: Keep both eyes the same size and height, and center the beak for symmetry.

Step 5: Draw the Round Body and Small Wings

how to draw a chicken - The chicken drawing now includes a large rounded body beneath the head, with small side wings on both sides.

Add a big rounded belly shape under the head to form an oval chicken body.

Draw one small outward-curving wing on each side, tucked against the body.

Pro Tip: Make the body wider than the head, and keep both wings symmetrical.

Step 6: Add the Legs and Three-Toe Feet

how to draw a chicken - The chicken drawing now includes two short legs and simple three-toe feet added beneath the round body.

Draw two short legs under the belly, starting with small curved cuffs where they meet the body.

Add three separated pointy toes on each foot, with the outer toes splayed slightly.

Pro Tip: Keep both feet the same height and width, with toes about equal length.
