Step-by-Step Drawing Guide
Step 1: Draw the Tree Crown

Draw a large cloud-like outline using connected rounded bumps. Leave two small gaps along the lower edge where the trunk will enter the crown.
Pro Tip: Mix large and small bumps to make the crown feel full and natural.
Step 2: Add Inner Foliage Edges

Draw several short scalloped lines inside the lower half of the crown. Arrange them in loose groups to suggest overlapping clusters of blossoms and leaves.
Pro Tip: Keep the inner curves separated so the crown does not look crowded.
Step 3: Draw the Trunk and Branches

Extend two slightly curved lines downward to form a wide trunk. Split the trunk into several upward branches that connect with the inner foliage edges.
Pro Tip: Taper each branch as it reaches farther into the crown.
Step 4: Add the Blossoms

Scatter several small five-petaled flowers across the tree crown. Leave generous gaps between them so each blossom remains easy to see.
Pro Tip: Rotate the flowers slightly instead of drawing every blossom at the same angle.
Step 5: Draw the Ground

Add a narrow oval patch around the base of the trunk. Draw a few pointed tufts of grass on both sides where the trunk meets the ground.
Pro Tip: Hide part of the oval behind the trunk to make the tree feel planted in the soil.
Step 6: Finish with Falling Petals

Draw small teardrop and oval petals among the blossoms and in the air below the crown. Vary their direction to make them look as though they are drifting on a breeze.
Pro Tip: Space the falling petals unevenly to create gentle natural movement.
Step 7: Color in your drawing!

Fun Facts
- Cherry blossoms are called sakura in Japan.
- Many ornamental cherry trees are celebrated for their flowers rather than their fruit.
- Individual cherry blossoms usually have five petals, although some cultivated varieties have many more.
Pin it now, Draw later!

Erase hidden guides, darken the outline, and color the trunk brown with a crown of pale and bright pink blossoms. Your cherry blossom tree is complete, so try adding a blue sky, a picnic blanket, or a path beneath it.
