How to Draw a Fennec Fox — Let’s get started!

Step 1 – Draw the Lower Jaw

How to Draw a Fennec Fox - Step 1 - Draw the Lower Jaw

Start by drawing a small curved line in the center of your paper. This will be the lower jaw of the fennec. Keep it slightly curved to create a soft and natural look. You can use a light pencil stroke at first, so it’s easy to adjust if needed. The lower jaw should be small but well-shaped to give the fennec its cute and friendly appearance.

Pro Tip:

If you want your fennec fox to look even more adorable, make the lower jaw slightly rounded rather than too sharp.

Use a soft pencil (like a 2B) so you can erase easily if you need to adjust the shape.

Step 2 – Draw the Right Ear

Now, let’s add the right ear! Draw a large, pointed shape extending upwards from the right side of the jaw. Fennec foxes have big ears, so make sure to exaggerate its size! Their ears are their most recognizable feature, and they help them hear even the smallest sounds in the desert.

Pro Tip:

The ear should be slightly curved, not too straight, to make it look more natural.

If you are having trouble drawing a symmetrical ear, try lightly sketching a guideline before committing to a final shape.

Step 3 – Draw the Left Ear and Head

Next, draw the left ear, mirroring the right one. Connect both ears with a rounded shape in between to form the top of the head. Add a few small zigzag lines along the edges to give the head a furry appearance. This will make the fennec fox look fluffy and cute!

Pro Tip:

If you struggle with symmetry, draw a light center guideline before sketching the ears.

Making the ears slightly uneven can give the drawing a more natural, lively look.

Step 4 – Add the Inner Ear Details

Inside each ear, draw a smaller triangular shape to show the inner ear structure. This adds depth and makes the fennec look more realistic. Fennec foxes have fur inside their ears to protect them from sand and heat, so you can add some light shading to give a textured effect.

Pro Tip:

Use short, light strokes to create a fur effect inside the ears.

Try shading the inner part of the ear slightly darker than the outer part to create depth.

Step 5 – Draw the Front Legs

Underneath the head, sketch two short vertical lines for the front legs. Add small curves at the bottom to form the paws. Keep the legs close together, as fennec foxes often sit neatly.

Pro Tip:

Keep the legs proportional to the body; if they’re too long or too short, the drawing may look unbalanced.

Make the paws slightly rounded for a softer, cuter look.

Step 6 – Sketch the Back and Hind Legs

Now, let’s complete the body by drawing the back and hind legs. Extend a curved line from the head downwards to form the back. Add another curved line at the bottom for the hind leg, making sure to show the shape of the paw resting on the ground.

Pro Tip:

Use smooth, flowing lines to create a natural body shape.

You can add small fur details along the back for a fluffier appearance.

Step 7 – Draw the Tail

Fennec foxes have thick, fluffy tails. Draw a curved, bushy tail extending from the back of the body. You can add some zigzag lines to make it look soft and furry.

Pro Tip:

Make the tail slightly curved to add movement to your drawing.

You can experiment with different tail positions—curled up, wagging, or resting on the ground!

Step 8 – Draw the Face Details

It’s time to bring your fennec fox to life! Draw two small circles for the eyes, making sure to leave a tiny white spot inside each for a shiny effect. Then, draw a tiny upside-down triangle for the nose, just below the eyes. Finally, add a small mouth by drawing a short curved line.

Pro Tip:

If you want a cuter, cartoon-like fox, make the eyes bigger and rounder.

Adding a tiny line under each eye can make the fox look even more expressive.

Step 9 – Color Your Drawing!

Now for the fun part—coloring! Fennec foxes have sandy-colored fur, with lighter shades on their belly and darker tips on their ears and tail. Use light brown, beige, and white to bring your drawing to life!

Pro Tip:

Blend colors softly for a realistic effect.

If you want a more animated look, use bright, vibrant colors!
